  • Biography

Hi, my name is Shane Wheatcroft and I’m an artist from Kent in the UK.

I specialise in collage and screen printing. I’ve always admired artists who use collage in their work such as Peter Blake, Hannah Hoch and Jamie Reid, but it was discovering the work of John Stezaker which really opened my eyes to the possibilities of collage and how with a couple of cleverly juxtaposed photographs you can create an image that conveys  something new.

In my working process, I’ll start with an image I’m drawn to and randomly add pieces until an idea starts to emerge, adding more collage pieces, paint, found objects etc. to reinforce the final concept. Often, the initial image won’t feature in the final piece, but it’s been invaluable as a starting point.

My work has featured in group and solo exhibitions around the UK, and I’ve been lucky enough to feature in exhibitions with several of my art heroes, including Sir Peter Blake, Andy Warhol and Gilbert and George.

For larger pieces please go to Lilford Gallery in Canterbury, Kent who stock a large range of my work.
