About Caroline Forward

Biography

I am an oil painter living in Cambridgeshire where I draw inspiration from my surroundings whether that is people, landscape, city or general life around me here and on my travels.  I use brush and palette knife and work mainly on canvas.

The geometry and architectural elements of landscape interest me, and the accompanying light and textures.  I often work from memories of intensity and surprise that store in my memory.

I enjoy exploring edges of reality and abstraction in my landscapes.  By letting go of some of the detail or the specific, I am striving to create a more universal sense of the place and what it may evoke.

I have become increasingly interested in painting the human face, a never ending challenge of light, planes, contours, of capturing mood and character, and where possible exploring the interconnectedness of person and place.

More recently I have been exploring architecture, taking unusual views of architecture, aiming to capture timelessness and monumentality of historic buildings.

I exhibit regularly, including participating in and managing the recent successful OuseLife group Artist in Residency at Ely Cathedral and exhibition “The Secret Life of Ely Cathedral”, April 2016.
