About Olha Vlasova

Biography

Hello, I’m Olha, an artist from Ukraine who can’t imagine life without painting.

I began my creative journey at the age of 9. I loved painting so much that my parents used to punish me by forbidding me from attending art school. That was the harshest punishment for me.

I studied at an art school, an art college, and the Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts. Now, I combine my painting and decorative skills in my vibrant and optimistic works.

My creative research is driven by the desire to convey the exceptional beauty, self-sufficiency and strength of women. I grew up in an environment where the pursuit of beauty and aesthetics was often seen as a sign of frivolity and superficiality. My creative journey has helped me to rethink my own femininity. I now explore themes of embracing one's uniqueness, the intimacy of close relationships, and a nuanced appreciation of beauty.

As an artist, I focus my research on conveying the personal experiences of women who encounter condescension and the diminution of their value due to sensitivity and femininity. I convey that the concepts of femininity and seriousness, playfulness and rationality are not mutually exclusive and can coexist.
My work participates in the discussion on tolerance and the pursuit of creating a safe space for self-expression. I incorporate themes of new sincerity in my work, embodying the desire to be oneself without the fear of encountering mockery, sarcasm, or societal labeling.
