My work explores shifting internal states, focusing less on defined mental health and more on emotion, mood, and the self. My style is leaning towards surrealism, blending avant-garde, macabre, pop, and expressionist styles, the grotesque, cartoonish figures are both dark and disarmingly honest. This approach reflects a fluid, unstable sense of identity, resonating strongly with queer experience. It is exploring relationships, breakups and the aftermath of it. I aim to connect personal experience with wider conversations around self-expression and belonging. My work is centred on portraiture and self-portraiture, it brings a personal and expressive perspective to themes of identity, emotion, visibility and relationships. I enjoy working in-between different styles making my work a mush up of surrealism, avant-garde, macabre, pop and expressionism but all in a grotesque and a bit cartoonish way. Komar is my artistic nickname, it translates in English as MOSQUITO.
