About Shelley Ashkowski

Biography

My name is Shelley Ashkowski and I am a freelance artist based in Wiltshire. I have a BA(Hons) and PGCE Secondary Art & Design and I spent a number of years teaching art in secondary schools. A few years ago I left full time teaching to devote more time to my career as an artist. Despite living in a rural location my work is mostly inspired by the urban environment and I am particularly passionate about architecture. My work places a strong emphasis on precision, attention to detail and excellent draughtsmanship. I have recently been elected as a member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art which recognises excellence in drawing. My current series of work celebrates the beauty and rich history of cathedrals. I am particularly interested in how cathedrals have adapted in order to survive in modern society and also how our relationship with religion has altered. I have exhibited my work in a number of galleries including Bath, Bristol and London. I am also very active on social media where I have an engaged and growing following.
