This painting forms part of my latest exploration of colour within the context of architecture. Despite most gothic cathedrals being of a muted stoned colour, it is widely believed that they were in fact incredibly colourful. Sadly only small traces of these colourful elements exist. I have been inspired to reimagine these beautiful buildings in their colourful state, using vibrant neon colours and opulent gold leaf. Not only is this my nod to the history of the building but also a reference to the illumination of the stained glass that can often be seen from within the building.
This painting exhibits beautiful turquoises, magentas and golds which can be enjoyed under natural light and seen differently under a UV blacklight.
