About Sarah Bouillaud

Biography

Sarah Bouillaud (b. 1985) is a French visual artist and photographer whose work explores the fragile boundary between reality and imagination. Through photography and digital photomontage, she creates poetic, dreamlike worlds where fiction intertwines with everyday life, inviting viewers to project their own memories, emotions and stories.

Graduating from Lycée Brassaï and Icart Photo School in Paris, Sarah developed a distinctive visual language based on the transformation of reality. Using her own photographs as raw material, she constructs carefully crafted compositions that blur the line between the visible and the imagined. Her work is deeply influenced by dreams, travel, mythology, childhood memories and the symbolic power of images.

Alongside her personal artistic practice, Sarah works as an editorial illustrator for major French newspapers and magazines, including Libération, Le Monde, La Croix, L'Humanité and L'Obs. She also leads therapeutic photography workshops, exploring the relationship between image-making, creativity and personal expression.

Her work has been exhibited and screened internationally. Highlights include selection for the SFR Jeunes Talents Award(2013), participation in the Les Rencontres du 10ème (2017), screening at the Voies Off Festival (2019), exhibition at the Hangar Art Center during the Brussels Photo Festival, presentation at the Shanghai PhotoFair (2021), exhibition of Odissea at the Polka Factory (2023), and exhibition of Credo. at the InCadaqués International Photography Festival in Spain.

In 2024, her acclaimed photobook Odissea was published by Éditions Révélateur.

Through each artwork, Sarah seeks to create a space of wonder, contemplation and escape—a visual journey where reality becomes a gateway to imagination.
