From a very young age I was driven to put memories, visions, observations, emotions and thoughts into imagery on paper. I see it as the lifelong pursuit of crafting a visual memoir, leaving tracks and traces of oneself to either be found or not. In my 20s and 30s, I took a very long hiatus from making art while working as a ballet dancer. The time and energy demands of that career eclipsed everything, but now, that period of my life greatly influences my work, both in terms of subject matter as well as my perspective on how and why we share ourselves and our art with others. After performing on stage for so many years, sharing an art form through movement, communicating directly to others through visual conversation, I now fully grasp the immense value of this very subtle and sacred form of connection.
