Artist Statement – Syuzanna Tarverdyan

As a painter, my work is deeply rooted in a classical foundation while exploring the emotional and symbolic dimensions of contemporary realism. Inspired by the timeless techniques of the Old Masters, I strive to create compositions that evoke introspection, nostalgia, and a profound connection to beauty.

Through meticulous attention to light, shadow, and texture, my paintings capture the delicate balance between fragility and permanence. Whether portraying human figures or still-life arrangements, I seek to transcend mere representation, allowing each piece to resonate with a deeper narrative. My use of chiaroscuro enhances the dramatic presence of my subjects, while rich, layered colors lend them a sense of timelessness.

I often draw inspiration from cultural heritage, nature’s ephemerality, and the emotional depth found in everyday moments. My still-life compositions, infused with vibrant yet melancholic undertones, reflect themes of transience, memory, and the passage of time.

I see painting as a bridge between past and present, tradition and innovation—a dialogue that continues to evolve with each brushstroke. Through my work, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and experience the silent poetry of form, light, and meaning.
