About Eugene Pokutnev

Biography

My name is Eugene Pokutnev. I was born and raised in Ukraine and am currently based in Germany. I have been working professionally as a painter since 2016, although my relationship with art began in childhood. Painting has always been more than a profession for me — it is the way I explore emotions, observe the world and express ideas that are difficult to communicate through words. My work is rooted in contemporary abstract painting, where colour, form, texture and movement become a visual language. I am particularly interested in the relationship between order and chaos, tension and harmony, darkness and light. Many of my paintings are inspired by the complexity of the world around us and by the human desire to find beauty, meaning and hope within it. I do not want to dictate exactly what a viewer should see in my paintings. Instead, I create a visual environment in which everyone can discover something personal. A shape may suggest a human figure, a landscape, an emotion or something entirely different. I believe that this freedom of interpretation is an important part of the experience of contemporary art. Texture and physical depth are also essential elements of my practice. I often work with layered forms and carefully developed surfaces, allowing the painting to become almost sculptural. I am interested in how light interacts with different textures and how a work changes when viewed from different distances and angles. The physical presence of the painting is therefore just as important to me as its composition and colour. Over the years, my work has been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Paris, London and Providence, as well as Kyiv, Dnipro and other cities. My paintings have been acquired by collectors in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Ukraine and other countries. Seeing my work become part of private collections around the world has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my journey as an artist. Today, living and working in Germany while maintaining my connection to my Ukrainian roots gives me an opportunity to look at the world from a broader perspective. This international experience continues to influence my artistic development and encourages me to explore new ideas, emotions and visual forms. I continue to develop my practice through experimentation, exploring new combinations of colour, texture, volume and composition while maintaining a recognisable artistic identity. Each painting is an opportunity to discover something new rather than simply repeat what I have done before. I am interested in joining Artfinder because it brings together artists and collectors who value original, authentic artwork and the story behind the person who created it. I would like to introduce my work to a wider international audience and build genuine, long-term relationships with collectors who connect with my artistic vision. For me, painting is ultimately about creating a connection — between the artwork and the viewer, between emotion and form, and between a personal experience and something that can be understood by someone on the other side of the world.
