About Félix Rubio

Biography

I am a Spanish painter based in Seville, with an academic background in Philosophy, Art History and Aesthetics. After almost thirty years working in education, I now dedicate myself fully to painting.

My work combines expressive figuration with abstraction and explores solitude, identity, memory and the relationship between individuals and the spaces they inhabit. I am especially interested in moments of psychological uncertainty: figures who appear absorbed, displaced or suspended within interiors, crowds and unstable landscapes.

I work mainly in oil and mixed media, using glazes, impasto, acrylic, pumice stone and collage to build surfaces that retain the visible traces of the creative process. Colour is not merely descriptive in my paintings; it acts as an emotional and structural force.

In 2026, my painting “Broken Communication” received a Menzione di Merito from the critical jury at the 6th Biennale della Creatività W.A.B. in Bra, Italy, and placed fourth in the public vote.

That same year, I created the official poster image for the 2026 Pop Eye Awards, which were broadcast by RTVE, Spain’s national public broadcaster. I also presented the solo exhibition “EXPOPARTY” at the Manolo Alés Gallery and Casa de la Cultura in La Línea de la Concepción.

My paintings have been selected for Artfinder Staff Picks and exhibited in both physical and international virtual exhibitions.
