I create art because I am fascinated by what can happen when colour, texture, pattern and mark-making are layered together. My mixed media work is very much about experimentation - I enjoy starting with an idea and then allowing the artwork to evolve organically, often covering, revealing and reworking previous layers.
I love the unpredictability of the process. A piece might begin with a simple colour combination or a particular texture, but as I add paint, collage, stencilling, printed marks and found imagery, it takes on a life of its own. I am particularly drawn to bold colour, repetition, geometric shapes and imperfect, spontaneous marks. I would like my work to find its way beyond my studio and into the homes of people who appreciate original, handmade art. I love the idea that something I have created through experimentation and intuition could connect with someone else on a personal level.
