About Bogdan Zagan

Biography

Bogdan Zagan is a contemporary artist based in Romania, born in Suceava on February 7, 1977. His early creative and analytical foundation was shaped by attending the "George Enescu" Arts School during middle school—where he studied the violin—while simultaneously earning recognition as a mathematics olympiad student. He later pursued advanced analytical studies at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (ASE), graduating from the Faculty of Accounting and Management Information Systems. Alongside his artistic pursuits, Bogdan has built a long-standing corporate career in IT, working in the industry since his second year of university.

His creative world deepened profoundly around 2010, when he discovered Argentine tango. This passion not only reshaped his artistic lens but also led to a defining life moment in 2015, when he met his wife at a Thursday night milonga on the steps of the National Military Circle Palace in Bucharest. These immersive experiences in music and dance became the heartbeat of his visual universe, deeply inspiring his subjects in painting—most notably the dynamic interplay of movement, rhythm, and the eternal quest for the ideal feminine form.

Bogdan began painting seriously in 2008 when purchasing a four-room apartment left him with plenty of empty walls to fill. His artistic breakthrough came around 2011, culminating in 2012 when he successfully sold half of his early works to a private collector in the United States. Following a hiatus, the spark returned in 2021 when he began acquiring apartments for rental investments, once again facing blank walls. Acting as both the interior designer and the creator, Bogdan became his own primary client.

Today, the works crafted by Bogdan Zagan are purposefully designed for large walls and above-average dimensions, tailored specifically for living rooms, bedrooms, and stairwells. With deep confidence in his recent direction and his rich narrative roots, he is now focused on establishing his presence in the art world and building a lasting reputation as a professional artist.

Here is Bogdan's view:

"Art is an architectural quest for balance—a continuous dialogue between classical rigor and structural harmony.

My creative approach is deeply rooted in Vitruvian principles: structure, permanence, and harmonious proportion. I believe that true artistic freedom does not stem from randomness, but from a profound mastery of form and geometry. Even in deconstruction, there must be an invisible skeleton—an underlying order that holds the composition together with strength and clarity.

Every line carries weight, every plane has purpose, and every color serves to balance the visual tension. My work rejects unguided chaos in favor of a deliberate, disciplined execution—creating pieces that are grounded, enduring, and visually commanding.

Through my art, I aim to offer discerning collectors a sense of visual stability and refined elegance. I create timeless, highly structured works designed to transform contemporary spaces—bringing balance, intellectual depth, and a powerful physical presence into the homes and collections of those who appreciate mastery, form, and geometric harmony."
