Biography
Ellisa Hague is an English oil painter specialising in fantasy‑led magical realism.
"I’ve loved fairy tales for as long as I can remember. Not for the happily ever after, but for the sense of magic and wonder they carry. With a fairy tale, something beautiful, evil or strange could happen at any moment. The inspiration is endless."
Ellisa’s paintings and designs lean into the magical side of life. Expect fairies and florals, goddesses and whimsical wildlife, starry skies, celestial beings, mythical creatures and fairy tale themes.
"I believe the inspiration behind my love of magical realism is rooted in a childhood made happy by discovery. A mother who encouraged me to search for fairies in tangled gardens and misty woodlands, and a father who taught me to look up at sparkling night skies. Without either of them realising it, they embedded a sense of enduring magic and celestial awareness into my core; showing me ways to look for, and notice, extraordinary themes in everyday life."
Favoured by the Old Masters, Ellisa uses the classical indirect method for most of her paintings. This approach builds colour through delicate transparent layers, resulting in paintings of beautiful depth and almost magical glowing light.
Every painting is created with professional materials, from the rich pigments of Old Holland oils to fine-grain Italian and Belgian linens, smooth Ampersand panels, and anodised aluminium, for enduring beauty and longevity.
