About Davide Gnani

Biography

About me

My painting is pure action painting and gestural abstraction. I work with raw energy: I move around large canvases on the floor, pouring, dripping, throwing and layering acrylic paint with my whole body. Every mark is a record of movement, instinct and emotion in the moment.

I begin by absorbing fleeting impressions from daily life — the shifting light on Amsterdam canals, reflections in puddles, the rough texture of old walls — during long walks. Back in the studio I let go of control. I balance deliberate gestures with happy accidents, building rich textures through multiple layers, splatters and energetic strokes. The result is abstract work that feels alive: chaotic yet harmonious, powerful yet poetic.

I am deeply inspired by the explosive freedom of Jackson Pollock and the dramatic intensity of Emilio Vedova. Their influence, combined with my early years in graffiti, pushes me to capture tension, release and the invisible poetry hidden in ordinary moments.

I create paintings that slow time, reveal hidden beauty in the everyday, and invite the viewer to feel rather than decode — works that bring movement, depth and raw emotion into a living space.

I start from fleeting impressions — light on Amsterdam canals, reflections in puddles, the texture of old walls — but once in the studio I let go of control. The result is abstract painting that feels alive: powerful yet poetic, chaotic yet balanced.

My paintings are held in public and private collections across Italy, France, the UK.

I have exhibited at LuxExpo Luxembourg, Venice International Art Fair, Boomer Gallery London and the Times Square Digital Exhibition in New York.

I am looking for collectors who love strong, energetic abstract art — works that bring movement, depth and emotion into a space.
