About Michèle Prévost

  • Biography

Born in Paris (France), Michèle Prévost lives and works in Venice (Italy). Her passion for art was born as a child, in the Parisian house full of paintings and visiting many exhibitions in the French capital. Later, between two courses at the Sorbonne, she sketched her first drawings in the near Jardin du Luxembourg.

In 1991, leaving her position in an austere law office in Paris, she decided to give free rein to her passion, and left France for a bohemian life in Milan, Italy, working for major fashion designers and learning a lot about art and beauty. Indeed, Italy has played a key role in her atypical professional path.

She uses enamel paint and other media, such as acrylic paint and tempera, on MDF board and wood in the early years, and later on canvas, with material elements to create intense, warm and vibrant abstract creations, focusing on the randomness of form due to reactions of the materials. Her works are often inspired by classical literary works, such as Virgil "Aeneid" or Ovid "Metamorphoses" and are colorful, sparkling and glossy, sometimes even violent.

    Dates: Sept. 8, 2017 - Sept. 29, 2017

    Venue: Médiathèque Gustave Eiffel, Levallois-Perret

This exhibition is conceived as a journey in search of our origins, through the words of the Latin poet Ovid. The text is extracted from the first pages of the Metamorphoses, in which the author tells us of the oldest transformation, that of the primitive chaos become universe, until the birth of the human race.

This major work is not only a catalog of mythological stories, it is a particular conception of the world, a place of eternal transformation, and a reflection on man and life. Ovid's world is ours, even if two thousand years separate us. These metamorphoses are the fruit of the imagination of the man, they speak about our fears, our hopes and our will to escape from the pains of the daily life. It is about us, who are in perpetual metamorphosis, from childhood to adolescence, from adolescence to adulthood, then to old age and death, the ultimate metamorphosis.
