About Joanna Gilbert

  • Biography
“We are all pure potential. Our only limits are the ones we put on ourselves. If we lose those limits, we discover who we really are and become our Ultimate Self. It is from this place of security and wellbeing, that I paint.”

I see art as a connection to a world full of colour, hope and appreciation.

    2018

Masters of Fine Arts - Distinction

The Masters of Fine Art Degree at Chelsea UAL was without question a pivotal point in my art direction, the way I contextualise my work and my progression. Very grateful for all the connections made and the path it has led me down.

Thanks to all the tutors for pushing me out of my comfort zone, and encouraging me to dig deep.

I loved it all… even the tough times!

    Event: Relief

    Dates: 26 May 2021 - 30 Jun 2021

Venue: Avivson Gallery, Highgate, London UK

I am delighted to be showing with Avivson Gallery again this summer between 26th May & 30th June.

Linking into my philosophy of mental health and wellbeing, I am interested in painting from the inside out. What do I mean by this? I have seen the truth in the unconditional – i.e. knowing that no one or no thing can make us happy (other than our true self). When I translate this to a canvas – I am exploring the notion of stripping conditions away so we are left with our own pure potential, highlighted through relief and texture.

    More details to follow soon….

    Event: Freedom

    Dates: 15 Nov 2020 - 12 Dec 2020

Venue: Avivson Gallery, Highgate, London UK

F R E E D O M (IN LOCKDOWN), ARTIST JOANNA GILBERT SHARES A MESSAGE OF HOPE. NOW SHOWING AT AVIVSON GALLERY LONDON

London based artist, Joanna Gilbert paints FREEDOM. Bold and beautiful large-scale abstract paintings are on show in her 2nd solo show at Avivson gallery, Highgate, London.

In the show 'F R E E D O M', something quite magical is emerging, the artworks ooze awakened energy with undertones of HOPE.

Gilbert states her core philosophy, “We are all pure potential. Our only limits are the ones we put on ourselves. If we lose those limits, we uncover resilience, hope, freedom and limitless potential. It is from this place of security and wellbeing, that I paint.”

    Event: Limitless

    Dates: 27 May 2020 - 16 Jun 2020

Venue: Avivson Gallery, Highgate, London UK

Estelle Lovatt FRSA, art critic and writer says, “stretching heaven high and earth low, floods of new colour spread expansive cavities of paint springing to life swiftly, by the speed of Gilbert’s painting [as if it were a muscle in itself].”

Gilbert states her core philosophy, “We are all pure potential. Our only limits are the ones we put on ourselves. If we lose those limits, we uncover resilience, hope, freedom and limitless potential. It is from this place of security and wellbeing, that I paint.”
