About Alexander Demidov

  • Biography

    1965              born in Minsk

1980 - 1984   studied at Minsk State Art College named after A. Glebov

1989 - 1995   studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts

1996              member of the Belarusian Union of Artists

Alexander Demidov is a contemporary Belarusian artist who works in easel painting in the allegorical and figurative genres. Alexander Demidov's main artistic method is based on how he is able to harmoniously combine the achievements of the Russian World of Art movement with the coloristic traditions of the Northern Renaissance. The artist’s deliberate rejection of plein air painting, his continuous search for new ways to use color, and his attention to the smallest details create a strikingly holistic picturesque universe that is filled with metaphors and allegories and is united by a single emotional component. His chamber works resemble a certain fictional theatrical production, in which ironic and sentimental stylized images perform on the canvas in accordance with the dictates of a carefully thought-out compositional design. In statically arranging the figures in space, the artist is able to enhance the feeling of peace with bewitchingly dazzling tonal transitions. The use of forms with smoothed edges emphasizes the childish naivety of the world that he has created, which in fact is informed by many years of searching for pure beauty. Relying on the basic ideas and principles of Russian Silver Age artists, Alexander Demidov strives to create a universal language of images and signs. He raises eternal themes in his works, including life and death as well as love and friendship.
