About Nancy Lindsay

  • Biography

Creating art has been a life-long pursuit for me. My work has evolved over the years and the “landscape” has become my area of concentration. The rolling river valleys of Iowa; the endless Nebraska horizon; the rugged Mediterranean coastline; the misty Rhodope Mountains and the colorful villages of Mexico have all provided me with extraordinary painting experiences.

I prefer to paint on location (en plein air) and complete a painting in one session (alla prima).  Wherever I set up my easel, I always make friends. People, especially children love to watch me. Painting outdoors gives me the opportunity to inspire those who have never seen an artist at work.

During the winter months, I work in my Stone City, Iowa studio. This gives me the opportunity to work on large-scale paintings inspired by my field work or photographs. Learning is a continual process for me and I am always experimenting with varied color palettes, brushstrokes and textures.

When painting, I’m always thinking about my “next painting”.
