About Michaela Wheater

  • Biography

I am an artist and educator based in London. Originally from Yorkshire I have strong memories of painting and drawing with my Dad and Grandad from an early age. I discovered a real love of printmaking at A Level and as an adult have found myself compelled to return to it as a medium. I use a variety of materials and processes in my work. I am interested in the inherent characteristics of different print processes and am keen to experiment with how they might help construct narrative. The process of making a print allows me to respond intuitively to the work as it evolves. You never stop learning and can never know enough: I relish that thought!

My artwork is concerned with the human condition. Currently I am working on a number of open series that explore the similarities of the doll with human form. I am interested in the uncanny relationship we have with dolls and how they can be a powerful metaphor for the self: Our experiences and our relationships.
