Doppelganger II (2019) Etchings & engravings by Michaela Wheater

This is an original print and is number 5 from a small edition of 5. The zinc plate for this etching was made in 2019 however it was 4 years later in 2023 that I settled on how I wanted to print her. She is a hard ground etching with spit bite aquatint which means the acid is painted directly onto the plate and so looks reminiscent of a watercolour. The transparent pink ink is rolled over the plate last before it is taken through the press to transfer the image onto paper.
She is inspired by a doll I saw for sale on ebay which had a very distinct character. I like the idea that we might all have a doll double!
