Doppelganger I (2019) Etchings & engravings by Michaela Wheater

This is an original print and is number 4 from a small edition of 5. The sepia image is made on one zinc plate with the pink and yellow coloured elements of the design created on a second zinc plate. She is a hard ground etching with spit bite aquatint which means the acid is painted directly onto the plate and so looks reminiscent of a watercolour painting. Each plate is inked before they are taken through the press one after another to transfer the image onto paper.
She is inspired by a doll I saw for sale on ebay which had a very distinct character. I like the idea that we might all have a doll double! She looks rather romantic, almost like a historical figure.
