Biography
I am an artist and educator based in London. Originally from Yorkshire I have strong memories of painting and drawing with my Dad and Grandad from an early age. I discovered a real love of printmaking at A Level and as an adult have found myself compelled to return to it as a medium. I use a variety of materials and processes in my work. I am interested in the inherent characteristics of different print processes and am keen to experiment with how they might help construct narrative. The process of making a print allows me to respond intuitively to the work as it evolves. You never stop learning and can never know enough: I relish that thought!
My artwork is concerned with the human condition. Animated portraits and theatrical, articulated figures, often unsettling are derived from drawings of myself, often with reference to my fascination with dolls.
Many of my ideas are generated from objects with emotional connections, also life events that challenge and call into question resilience. I am concerned about uncovering a truth in the moment of making.
