I’m always engaged with art, even when I’m not creating anything; sooner or later it comes to the surface, and that’s what makes the creative process so fascinating. My motto is: ‘The horizon is infinite; it is only in your mind that it has a limit.’ I give classical themes a contemporary twist, and ideas also arise from the creative process itself. The paintings surprise the viewer through their use of colour, texture and materials. At first glance, the works are very diverse – ranging from figurative to abstract – but if you look closely, they are unmistakably Mieke’s. There is a common thread: working together to make the world a better place for one another, from person to person and from person to nature. Optimistic works with a deeper layer of meaning: radiating and growing.
