About Linda Coppens

Biography

I am a Belgian abstract artist based in Spain.

I don't begin a painting with a particular image in mind. I enjoy discovering what happens as I work. A mark, a colour or an unexpected combination can take the painting somewhere I hadn't anticipated. Sometimes I follow that direction; sometimes I change it completely.

Over the years, I've become increasingly aware of my tendency to want to make everything right, to keep things under control and to resolve what feels unfinished. Alongside changes in my life, my approach to painting has been evolving too. I'm becoming more comfortable with the idea that not everything needs to be resolved, that some things can simply be left alone, and that empty space can be just as important as what fills it.

This doesn't mean that my paintings are necessarily quiet or minimal. Some are full of movement and activity, while others leave more room to breathe. What matters to me is allowing each painting to develop in its own way, without trying to make everything fit together perfectly.

My ongoing body of work, Rhythms of the Unspoken, reflects this evolving approach. I enjoy the freedom to experiment, make decisions, change my mind and occasionally surprise myself. And I'm discovering that a painting doesn't have to answer every question I ask of it.

My work is held in private collections in Europe, Asia and the United States and has been exhibited internationally.
