City Composition #04 pares the city down to black, white and the unstable greys between them. A vehicle emerges from the haze while the long structure on the right drives the eye towards a rain-polished distance. Reflections fracture the architecture, making road, sky and built form bleed into one another. Part of the City Composition series, the painting exchanges colour for pressure: movement is carried by diagonals, dark mass and the sharp pulse of reflected light.
