Nightfall captures the instant when daylight does not gently disappear but is trapped and intensified between buildings. A vertical shaft of pale gold falls through the dark city canyon, striking wet streets, cars and rails below. The surrounding architecture gathers like a wall of shadow, making the remaining light feel both luminous and threatened. The painting treats evening as a threshold of pressure: the city is still visible, but already yielding its details to night.
