About Samira Malik

Biography

Samira Malik is a self-taught photographer and inspired by a lifelong love of the sea, the drama of atmospheric light and scenes that capture that elusive feeling of freedom. Her work explores the relationship between place, memory and the emotions that connect us to the world around us.
Drawing on experiences living and travelling across Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States, she creates photographs that capture a sense of connection to a particular moment in time. Whether standing beside the Mediterranean, looking across an alpine landscape or observing the rhythm of a city, she is drawn to places that evoke a feeling of wonder, calm and possibility.
Inspired by the work of Slim Aarons and his ability to capture atmosphere, beauty and a strong sense of place, Samira seeks to create images that invite the viewer into the scene. Her portfolio focuses on coastal landscapes, architecture and atmospheric cityscapes, from the muted pastel colours of the French Riviera and the intense blues of alpine lakes in Switzerland and France to black and white compositions of New York's geometric cityscape. Throughout her work, themes of space, light and freedom are ever present.
Working with photography as both a documentary and artistic medium, Samira aims to preserve not only the appearance of a place but also the feeling it leaves behind. Through careful composition, natural light and an appreciation for detail, she reveals the character, atmosphere and emotion that make each location unique.
Produced as museum-quality fine art giclée prints, her photographs are intended to encourage a moment of pause, reflection and escape. Above all, her work celebrates the sea, the beauty of travel and the enduring freedom found in exploration and discovery.
