    Kathrin Flöge

All kinds of images have always had a strong appeal for me. Even briefly perceived images in everyday life could enrich my day immensely, but sometimes also lead to a kind of sensory overload. This is probably one of the reasons why I have always been drawn to nature, surrounded by beautiful pictures that I could simply enjoy. At home, near Bremen in the north of Germany, I then began to paint and draw, driven by the impressions that fascinated me: often my self-built tree houses, the fields behind our house, animals or flowers, and always the sea!

After graduating from high school, I studied art and French in Bremen and have been working in the teaching profession since 1994. As a balance to school life, however, I no longer considered creating pictures after my studies, but rather my second great passion, classical music and playing the piano. And I was amazed that the sensitivity for sounds I acquired in piano lessons enhanced my sensitivity for colour tones.

With the first lock-down in 2020, I began to paint intensively again: to please other people, I painted their favourite places and gave them away. This was followed by a few smaller exhibitions in some Hamburg doctors' surgeries and some international successes with online galleries.

In the meantime there are various opportunities for solo exhibitions in the Hamburg.

The quality of my artistic work is confirmed by a certificate of the Luxembourg Art-Price 2021.

I now live in Hamburg with my husband and love the harbour with its wide views over the water of the Elbe and, of course, the Elbphilharmonie.

    Why I paint...

I paint out of gratitude to life,
for the joy of many visible things,
out of love for nature and animals,
for the fun of experiencing ever new colour games and compositions,
in expectation of ever new surprises,
in remembrance of Paul Cézanne, when reality appears to me as an unlimited number of visual data that arrange themselves in my head to form something that is held in place by the rectangular picture borders
and to give other people something that is important to myself.

    Hope you enjoy my paintings!
