Working with minimal pastel on a rough, dark red ochre, sanded paper kept me honest—every stroke matters, no hiding behind layers here. I was attempting a joyful tension in the contrast between the bright colors and the dark background of this woman, waiting for the dance to happen. It was about capturing the spirit of her anticipation—I tried to keep it light, lively, and little bit mischievous.
