Original artwork description
An original mixed-media painting that offers an abstract interpretation of Venice. I reimagine the traditional landscape through layered materials and a contemporary approach to composition. Rich browns, earthy ochres and deep Prussian blues create an atmospheric palette, evoking the distinctive architecture and moody beauty of the Venetian landscape. The intensity of the Prussian blue contrasts with the warmer earth tones, bringing depth to the composition. A final layer of varnish enhances the surface, enriching the colours and unifying the different materials.
Created using acrylic paint and magazine collage, this original abstract landscape combines painted marks with collaged elements to explore the relationship between traditional landscape painting and contemporary mixed-media art.
I created this painting during the final year of my BA at Leeds Arts University, when I was exploring three traditional artistic subjects: still life, portraiture and landscape. This painting formed part of that exploration, allowing me to reinterpret the landscape genre through abstraction and experimentation.
