The image is a screen-print of Van Gogh. I wanted to explore a Van Gogh painting and chose one of his self-portraits, creating a two screen layered screen-print. I chose the colours associated with his sunflowers, creating the yellow as a background colour to print the red line work on top.

The yellow layer was created using the drawing fluid and block in screen-printing, allowing parts to disintegrate, therefore allowing larger areas of colour yellow to bleed through, whilst retaining some areas of Vincent's portrait, then I added the layer of red, created through the exposure of a line drawing on acetate, exposed via UV onto an emulsion, forming the image stencil to print.

Materials used:

Acrylic screen-printing inks on snowden white cartridge paper
