Travellers Vigil (2016) Original Ink Drawing by Deirdre Walsh

55 x 75 x 0.1cm (unframed) / 55 x 75cm (actual image size)

£1,000

This original ink on paper drawing belongs to my Travellers Series within the ongoing Sculptural Drawings body of work. Created with intense gestural scribbling and dense, layered hatching, the piece builds a powerful, monumental central figure through raw, energetic mark-making. The figure’s face emerges from deep hollows, while long, cascading strokes flow downward like hair or a dissolving veil. Small standing figures appear in the background, suggesting scale, journey, and narrative tension.
The heavy, tactile ink marks give the composition a carved, sculptural weight and an ethereal, haunting presence. This work explores themes of journey, guardianship, memory, and the relationship between the individual and the collective.
