In The Wolf within I wanted to explore the connection between femininity, instinct and the untamed side of nature.
I painted a woman embracing a powerful white wolf, creating a contrast between tenderness and strength. For me, the wolf represents freedom, instinct and inner power, while the woman represents a softer and more vulnerable kind of strength. Together, they express the idea that we can carry both sides within us — the gentle and the wild.
I chose a palette of pale tones mixed with vivid touches of green, purple, orange and blue. I wanted the colours and energetic brushstrokes to create an almost dreamlike atmosphere, while the loose marks and dark lines keep the painting spontaneous and expressive.
I was not interested in creating a perfectly realistic representation. Instead, I wanted to capture a feeling — that quiet, instinctive connection between a woman and an animal, and the feeling of finding strength in our wilder side.
