The Vibe (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Zakhar Shevchuk

A yellow car, a snow-covered mountain and three strangely detached human figures meet in The Vibe. Zakhar Shevchuk builds the large composition from elements that seem simultaneously connected and independent, creating something closer to a remembered impression than a conventional narrative scene.

All three figures are cropped at the torso. A pink-haired man in sunglasses holds a drink; a pale woman appears beside the car; another woman floats against the dark upper edge of the painting. Their flattened, highly simplified forms have the quality of magazine cut-outs inserted into a much more gestural landscape. The upper figure is especially ambiguous – part observer, part apparition, perhaps part memory.

Behind them, the mountain dissolves into broad brushwork and long drips. The enormous yellow car, bearing the word “VIBE” on its plate, provides an almost Pop Art blast of colour amid the muted terrain.

Shevchuk combines expressionist painting with elements of naïve art, street imagery and contemporary visual culture. At 150x200 cm, the work is both physically imposing and strangely elusive: less a description of an event than a collection of sensations that somehow belong together.
