The Spine (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Stefan Popescu
70 x 100 x 1cm / 70 x 100cm (actual image size)
£1,756.82
Original artwork description
A man seen from behind, barefoot, in white trousers, his back bare. Along his spine rises a ridge of gold, in relief. It looks like a crack or a wound opening inward — it's the opposite. He no longer holds himself together with his hands: he holds himself up with the spine he built for himself. I shaped the gold with a palette knife, in thick, dense paste, building up the surface to create shadow and depth. You don't repair yourself to be the same as before. You repair yourself to be taller, more visible, more solid.
Materials used:
Acrylic, structural paste, and gold pigment in relief on MDF

- Acrylic painting on Panel / Board / MDF
