The Light We Carry is part of my series Older than Memory, a body of work about moving through difficult periods, finding a way forward, and the possibility of hope after uncertainty.
A woman holds a light above those who walk beside her. Sometimes hope is something we carry for one another. The simple gesture in the painting becomes a symbol of support, connection and the strength that can come from moving forward together.
I wanted the work to feel both personal and universal — something that can speak to an individual experience while leaving space for the viewer to find their own meaning in it.
The strong blue, warm yellow and deep burgundy create a distinctive atmosphere, while the large scale gives the painting a real presence within an interior. It can work particularly well as a statement piece in a living room, bedroom, study or other contemporary space.
As an original contemporary painting, The Light We Carry is also intended as a work to live with rather than simply decorate a wall. Its subject of hope, support and human connection can make it a meaningful choice for a personal art collection or a thoughtful gift for someone important to you.
