What remains of us after life has changed us forever? Sometimes the deepest fractures are invisible. Tangled Within invites the viewer to reflect on the unseen forces that shape the way we experience ourselves and the world around us.

Part of my ongoing series The Shape of Resilience, this artwork is created through a three-layer process. A vibrant acrylic portrait is physically torn apart and carefully reconstructed, leaving black spaces as a metaphor for transformation rather than loss. Cotton threads weave across the eyes—not as a blindfold, but as a map of invisible emotional ties, tangled thoughts, and inner conflicts. They do not conceal the truth; they reveal the complexity of seeing through memory, fear, hope, and experience.

Blending contemporary figurative painting with mixed-media techniques, Tangled Within explores identity, resilience, and the unseen emotional landscapes we all carry.
