“ Steady Eddie “, portrait of a young man.
Mixed media, part construction, part modelled, then decorated in ostrich eggshell, which I collected while living in the Karroo, SA. Then, adding layer upon layer of colour to give Eddie his special glow. I first created the work in clay, then I made a mould taking one cast from this and then the mould was destroyed. I began to dress the artwork, until I felt I could do no more.
The awakening of this idea came from a meeting with a character who I felt I had to create. His presence was spellbinding and I needed to replicate this.
I have re-worked this sculpture many times over many years and now feel Eddie is ready to leave home, to find a new life.
All of my works are an edition of one.
I am a story teller, using my creativity to leave a visual history of what i am about.

Materials used:

Herculite plaster and then ‘dressed', using mosaic ostrich eggshell (found in the Karroo desert) plus mirror, paint, treated rolled lead, gems and found objects
