Someone Is Waiting depicts a solitary man holding a brilliant yellow bouquet against a dense, dark field of vegetation. Facing the viewer while turning his head slightly towards the flowers, he seems caught immediately before an encounter. His obscured face keeps both his expression and the story unresolved.

The contrast between the tender gesture and the surrounding darkness gives the painting its emotional tension. Oversized leaves and branches become broad expressionistic marks, while the pale pink shirt and yellow flowers pull the figure forward. Someone may indeed be waiting – but Shevchuk leaves that person outside the image.

The painting belongs to the increasingly direct figurative language of Shevchuk’s recent work, combining simplified forms with spontaneous brushwork and areas approaching abstraction. A familiar scene becomes less an illustration than a fragment of an unfinished story.
