£1,479.31
Original artwork description
The series titled “Safe space,” so far including three works and more in progress, explores the discovery of life at the gym, doing bench presses for the first time in decades, working the machines, stretching, pedal-walking aerobic machines, making friends and sharing tips on training, and hanging out in the steam room and sauna. The work reflects the visceral joy of reactivating my body and breathing in and with the world after not going to a gym for many years, though keeping fit through walking and swimming. The gym may be a place to release nervous energy after the workday, but it is also a place not only for self-care but also for engaging others as the locus of connections slips away from the physical into simulacra of the digital. "Safe space" reflects the joy of rediscovering the power of just being co-present.
