Original artwork description
This original abstract expressive painting has a palette of deep greens, blues, purple with flecks of orange. The mixed media painting is created from acrylic paint and magazine collaged into the surface. The work is textured.
The collage depicts a car and trees, part of a woman and patterned elements. I merge painterly gestures with digital reproduction. These collaged elements are adhered to the surface and partially removed through scrubbing, revealing underlying colours and earlier layers, allowing the history of the painting to remain visible.
Working without a predetermined aesthetic, I build the composition intuitively through layered applications of acrylic paint, contrasting thick palette-knife gestures with thinner, more fluid passages. Masking tape is applied across sections of the painting to create sharp linear interruptions that contrast with the more chaotic, expressive marks.
The work is process-led and develops spontaneously through the use of varied tools, including brushes, palette knives, sponges, and my hands.
