Rise Within is an expressive portrait exploring inner strength, aspiration and the quiet desire to rise beyond one's circumstances.
The upward position of the subject's face creates a sense of openness and possibility, while the intense orange and golden tones of the clothing contrast dramatically with the deep blue surrounding space.
The painting combines expressive brushwork with a carefully constructed portrait, allowing colour, gesture and facial expression to work together. The strong contrast between warm and cool tones gives the work an energetic contemporary presence.
