" Poor Me " (2024) Original Wood Sculpture by Andru Fijalkowski

The title of this work is,
" Poor Me ", a moment of self realization at a time of feeling useless and inadequate, due to what we have become and how we treat each other. I am in my messiah mode, wearing my 'crown of the disappointed'. Carved from Bog oak (fossilized wood). The age of wood is thousands of years old. The natural colour is black, as it lay in peat ( black soil ), for this length of time, which has part fossilized the wood. It is a very hard substance, which makes working with the wood, not against it. I collected this piece of wood from the fields of the Fens in Norfolk, in the early 90's and have made a series of works in this medium. I feel it has special qualities, that gives it power and strength. I return to this medium when I feel a subject can only be created from this. " Poor Me ", is mounted on a metal stand and is two parts joined together, which originally came from the same piece of wood.
