New Dimension is a large original oil painting on canvas, 140 x 180 cm, by London artist Ryan Louder — a squirrel monkey portrait that dissolves into hidden figures the longer you look.

At first glance it presents as a painting of a squirrel monkey — playful, familiar, charming. Look closer and layers of surreal imagery emerge: hidden forms surfacing out of the fur, faces that appear and vanish, dimensions folded into a single frame.

This is part of a body of work shaped by my neurological condition, narcolepsy with REM intrusion hallucinations, clinically confirmed at Guy's Hospital in London. My brain slips into dream states while I am awake, and that shifting perception is what the painting holds — beautiful, unsettling, never quite settled. The imagery emerges from neurological experience, not metaphor.
