About Ryan Louder

  • Biography

I am a London based artist

My artwork derives inspiration from the vivid and often surreal experiences of rapid eye movement (REM) intrusions, which are characteristic of a neurological condition I have had most of my life. This involves my brain going in and out of rem sleep position throughout the day while I am awake. This shouldn't happen. It was picked up by Neurologists at Guys Hospital otherwise I would never have known. From the outside no one would know it's happening and I have maintained a normal life and is really a gift for a creativity as I do not have to wake up paint my dreams like Dali.I can paint them as they are happening.

As I delve into these experiences, I find myself drawn to the notion of images within images. The visuals that manifest during these episodes often have a layered or nested quality, with one image emerging from another or appearing to be contained within it. I strive to convey this effect in my art, using various techniques to create a sense of depth and complexity.

Through my paintings, I seek to explore the boundary between waking reality and the surreal realm of dreams. By channeling the unique perspective of my condition, I hope to offer viewers a glimpse into a world that is at once familiar and strange, unsettling and beautiful.
