Muse 144-21 (2021) Original Sculpture by Philippe Buil

Muse 144-21 is my personal tribute to the timeless beauty of the female figure and to the dialogue between classical inspiration and contemporary sculpture.

This sculpture was inspired by the Muse created in 1929 by French sculptor Joseph Lamberton for the Massenet monument. Rather than reproducing this historical figure, I wanted to reinterpret its elegance through my own artistic language: metal lace.

I create each sculpture by melting steel and brass drop by drop, using a technique I have developed over many years. The openwork structure allows light to pass through the sculpture, creating ever-changing shadows that become part of the artwork itself. Every molten drop remains visible, preserving the memory of fire and the spontaneity of the gesture.

A flowing line of brass runs along one side of the figure like a thread of light, contrasting with the raw texture of the steel. This subtle golden accent gives the sculpture warmth while emphasizing its slender silhouette.

For me, this work speaks about inspiration, memory and transformation. It invites the viewer to discover beauty not only in solid matter, but also in the empty spaces where light can breathe.

This is a one-of-a-kind original sculpture, entirely handcrafted in my studio in France. It is signed, supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity, and carefully packaged for secure international shipping.
