It was in the late Victorian era that society became concerned about the arrival of the "New Woman", a girl who rejected the idea of being a happy little housewife in favor of education, independence and self-development. A first generation of feminists was slowly emerging. Arrogant and restless young women sought further education, travel and work, as well as campaigning for more rights. Many parents – of both sexes – were not happy and much ink of indignation was spilled on what has been dubbed the "revolting daughters".
