Lacy 5 (2024) Original Oil Painting by Fatih Sungurtekin
28 x 39 x 1cm (unframed)
£2,033.16
Original artwork description
The artist connects the lace textures with the motifs previously applied to walls, creating a textured surface by using a lace sample from his wife Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin's trousseau as the base of his painting. The small lace textures blend individual memories with the figure that sheds light on history through traditional attire, stance, and expression, creating a new story on the canvas. By reviving the absence of female figures censored in Ottoman Turkish painting and erased from the traces of the past from a historical perspective, the artist reconstructs a historical process, filling the void of the past with his paintings. He reworks the materials used, going beyond mere visual objects, creating a dialogue from personal and collective memories. By using these materials, he gives them new life and meaning, saving them from the brink of oblivion, and re-expressing them with the transformative power of art.
