"Got One" was painted in Biscarosse, in the pine forests of southwest France, during a two-week residency I improvised from a rented house.
The figure carries the particular energy of someone who got one wave and considers the day a complete success. I never surfed that summer. I checked the beach every day. The waves were always flat. Two weeks passed. I painted this instead.
"Got One" is part of Drop 003, a three-painting collection made during the same French stay. Acrylic, oil pastels, and objects found — or manufactured — in France. 100 × 80 cm.
